Last summer I was working as an assistant wedding photographer in California during the brief period when gay couples could marry there. While working a wedding at the San Fransisco City Hall, I watched two old men in tuxedos help each other up the stairs in order to finally get married after over 30 years together. GMH.

*** Random OMG Fact ***

The microwave was invented after a researcher was working near a radar tube and a chocolate bar melted in his pocket.

It was during a radar-related research project around 1946 that Dr. Percy Spencer, a self-taught engineer, noticed something very unusual. He was testing a new vacuum tube called a magnetron when he discovered that the candy bar in his pocket had melted. This intrigued him, so he tried another experiment. This time he placed some popcorn kernels near the tube and, perhaps standing a little farther away, he watched with an inventive sparkle in his eye as the popcorn sputtered, cracked and popped all over his lab.

Next, he put the magnetron tube near an egg. Spencer was joined by a curious colleague, and they both watched as the egg began to tremor and quake. The rapid temperature rise within the egg was causing tremendous internal pressure. The curious colleague moved in for a closer look just as the egg exploded and splattered hot yoke all over his amazed face.

I spent a good portion of my life being told homosexuality is wrong, after going to a liberal arts college... I can't believe that. This makes me realize tenfold that there is nothing wrong with it. I'm single and lonely without a partner or anyone to love me, but all over the world. There are people committing, I just need to remember that it can happen, even to those whom I have been told their "way" of doing things is wrong. How can being in love be wrong? People's love is amazing!

That's so amazing. It's so nice hearing stories about homosexual couples who have been together for a very long time finally be able to marry. I really wish the US would legalize gay marriage. It would make millions and millions of people so, so happy, and produce so many more wonderful stories like this :)

IIRC, the first same-sex couple to marry were Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon, who'd been together for something like 50 years--I don't know how anyone could look at that and see perversion, obscenity, evil, or anything other than beauty.

Sorry to be a downer/nitpicker, Rose, and I don't mean to offend you, but how is that they've been together for a long time for 30 years the part that gives you hope? It gives you hope that they were together, but it does not give you hope that they can finally be together in the way that they want to be? You have the right to believe whatever you like, of course, and I respect that, but I don't really understand your comment.

Twenty-eight, it's the fact that they stayed together in the way that they didn't (in your words) want to be together (not married) for so long.

I am not in favor of legalizing gay marriages and I do not approve of homosexuality but you don't see me posting hateful comments about homosexuals! As Christians, it is our job to show love and compassion, NOT to pass judgments! watch your words!!

#32, If you're going to be completely disrespectful and closed minded could you at least do it with some composure. I'm a Christian and straight and I believe that all love is beautiful. Haters, keep your comments to yourself.

I don't understand why anyone would find love disgusting. No one can help their sexuality, and we don't bag you for being straight. Just go die or something. And yes, I'm a Christian. This is amazing. :)
