am i really the only person who finds these little messages completely impersonal. if i actually knew the one telling me this, it would make me feel good, but because i have no connection to the person at all, i dont feel touched by this. its like me making a statement " the way you play the harmonica makes my heart melt". how this can make people happy, ill never know, but im glad it makes someone feel good about themselves.

@ 41 no, i totally get how you feel and sometimes i also feel like that, like if you saw me the way i looked this second, would you still tell me that i look beautiful? would i even believe it? but then i tell myself that it's not the point if poster thinks i look beautiful or not, if i do indeed, of i should choose to believe him. the point is that poster took a moment out of his day to post a loving, happy message to whichever anonymous person reads it. and he meant only goodwill and hope when he did so, and we all know that it is the thought that counts. so instead of taking it as face value - that some random stranger thinks i look good today - i instead think that some random stranger wanted to make me, a fellow stranger, have a moment of sunshine in my day. its like operationbeautiful.com, which i totally heart and in whose name ive posted tons of notes. of course, i believe that every woman is beautiful, but it's not that that gets me posting. it's the feeling that i have made someone's day, maybe life, different, and that is a powerful feeling. sorry for the speech :) and OP, thanks for the GMH, one of the most beautiful I've read on this site. xoxo

I had a terrible day today when I realized for the first time in a long time that its very possible my current relationship may not last. I was trying to distract myself all day, and had to hold in my tears until I got home. After crying for a while I got to thinking and started to feel bad about myself physically; feeling like I was not pretty enough, getting fat, and just generally not appealing. I had the overwhelming urge to harm myself. I have had problems with self harm in the past, and when I am feeling down it sometimes reoccurs. Instead, I decided to go on here and see if I could cheer myself up. Most of the submissions just made me feel like I was a selfish person to be so worried about myself when there are so many people who have it so much worse. It made me feel worse.. But then I read this message. And I know you truly mean that, despite not ever seeing me, and I cried the hardest I have in a long long time. Thank you for making my day that much better, and giving me hope.
