I recently rung up a young boy and his mother. When he saw me at the register, wearing a hijab, he grinned broadly at me. As they were walking away afterwards, he tugged on his mom's sleeve and said,
"Did you see her, ma? She's gorgeous! I bet that's why she's all covered up."
He GMH.

I was going to the hospital for a check up with my cardiologist.
I saw an elderly couple walking to a car. The man was having a lot more trouble walking than his wife, but sped up in front of her, so he could open the car door for her and help her inside.
Love like that GMH.

I love this post! That kid is so sweet!
For all of you who don't know what a hijab is, it is a headscarf that mostly Muslim women wear.
Tolerance of other cultures really is amazing, even though this little boy probably didn't know the hijab was part of another culture. That is so touching, and OP, I'm sure you are gorgeous.
My friend just started wearing a hijab, her bravery for choosing to wear it is amazing
hijab is the opposite of hope.
its oppression and the taking of women rights.
Or it could just, you know, be a harmless tradition of their culture.
They don't force others to wear it, even in most Muslim countries.
#10 - Surely women have the right to wear a hijab or not as they choose, by your own logic?
Hijab is far from oppression. I'm a muslim girl, and I don't feel oppressed at all. I wore the hijab by my own choice - Islam is against forcing the hijab on a woman, it must be her own decision. This story is beautiful :)
Tolerance is amazing, and intolerance is one of my pet peeves. Because of that, this story really stood out to me.
Oh, she is definitely beautiful mashallah (praise be to God) :).
gmehope, thank you so much. I wanted to say something to invisible, but I didn't want to butcher my facts and accidentally offend someone. :)
I wonder if invisible is confusing a hijab with a burqa. Hijabs do not cover the face, while burqas do. Every woman I have met who wore a hijab did so by choice and did not feel oppressed by it.
What a sweet little boy! I hope he stays that way...it's sad how we lose that sense of equality we have as kids. And we all lose it, to some extent.
I'm not Muslim and I think Hijabs make women look more beautiful because it draws your eyes to their face rather than their hair, chest, etc. Plus the fabric of the the Hijabs themselves is often very pretty. That little boy definately GMH. He will be able to recognize true beauty rather than superficial beauty.
I am the woman who covers my hair and wears loose clothes.
I am the woman who is appreciated for her intellect and personality, and not merely her outward appearance.
I am not oppressed. I am free of stereotypes, other than the ones YOU set for me.
What an amazing little boy. =)
I'm Muslim, and I tend to dress conservatively. Although I don't wear a hijab, I think it's great that some girls choose to; more power to them.
@10, one of worst problems of our world is intolerance. Do your part and don't spread it. An open mind is all you need to see that there is beauty in all people, regardless of our individual beliefs.
Spread the love
I love this story! Little kids are so honest, and they don't see the world by race or gender or anything else. And I'm Muslim, I don't wear a hijab because I don't want to, but I love the fact that anyone can choose to if they want.
This is amazing and so is the little boy
This gave me hope! If only there were more people in this world with that kind of heart. The world would be a better place. You go girl! Power to everyone who is brave enough...to just be themselves and love whoever...despite what others may think or say.
I'm a Muslim, and while I don't wear a Hijab (My school has a strict policy against headwear, and I prefer not to.), I see so many girls wearing it around me. They get detentions and suspended by my school because our administration is full of ignorant bigots, but they still wear it.
And now, I recently heard that these girls won their court case, they can wear them in school again.
Doesn't that infact defeat the purpose of wearing one? I mean Muslim women wera hijab because they want to draw attention AWAY from themselves, it's considered a sin on the WOMAN'S behalf if a man looks at her and "falls into sin" which is what poster number 10 was refering to."
I'm tolerant of the Muslim relgion, but I also agree with number 10, it's not about doing it for yourself, to make yourself feel better, it's about doing it for other people. . .
"And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband's fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers or their brothers' sons, or their sisters' sons, or their women, or the slaves whom their right hands possess, or male servants free of physical needs, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex; and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And O ye Believers! turn ye all together towards Allah, that ye may attain Bliss"
That's brilliant! Someone needs to give that kid a hug.
And typical, someone needs to give you a slap.
