Last year, I was going to kill myself. I wrote a note and slipped it into my best friend's locker at school. That night, I was preparing to die, when she crawled through my window and kissed me. My first real kiss.

My senior year, I was the only girl in one of my classes and was always teased by them for it. I still baked for every one of them on their birthday, expecting nothing back. My birthday was the last in the class. I walked in that day to 17 boys holding plates of cookies. They each baked for me, without talking to eachother about it. Those boys GMH

My little 8 year old sister has leukemia. Today I visited her in hospital and she said to me

"Ellie, I know I'm going to die. But I know that I'm going to be coming back as a kitten. So after I'm gone and when a kitten comes to your door. It will be me. I will always love you. Even when I'll be a cat".

Three years ago, a friend of mine died in a car accident due to drunk driving. I've taken care of her son ever since and today he hugged me and told me that he wished I married his mom before she died. I was driving the car. GMH

Early this year, a Spanish teacher at my middle school died of cancer, leaving behind a son. The school banded together to raise money for a college fund. They raised $6,300. Six teachers and the Principal shaved their heads in support. One cut the ponytail he'd been growing since 1986. GMH.

During WWII, my friend's grandpa was captured and tortured, but he refused to reveal his mission. The japanese said if he didn't spill, they would kill the other five captured men. He wouldn't budge. He escaped, but he had to live with their blood on his hands. 25 years later, he found out they all lived. Not a single one talked. GMH

I work in a coffee shop, and every time I make a hot chocolate for someone, I like to draw a pattern in chocolate sauce on the froth relevant to what I think they'd like. Smiley faces for little boys, love hearts and butterflies for the girls and sometimes, if I'm really lucky and hear their name, the first letter. Their laughter GMH.

Yesterday I turned my calculator on to do my math homework and "I love you" was written on the screen. My boyfriend said "I wrote it last Sunday and I've been waiting all week for you to turn it on." He knows I'm struggling with precalc and he can't help me, but his love and support make me want to do my best. It GMH.

Today, the pastor of my church anounced that his 19-year-old daughter was pregnant out of wed-lock.

As the pastor's wife began to cry, a little boy ran up to her and hugged her saying, "It's okay! Babies are the best thing in the world, no matter what." GMH

I recently rung up a young boy and his mother. When he saw me at the register, wearing a hijab, he grinned broadly at me. As they were walking away afterwards, he tugged on his mom's sleeve and said,

"Did you see her, ma? She's gorgeous! I bet that's why she's all covered up."

Last summer I was working as an assistant wedding photographer in California during the brief period when gay couples could marry there. While working a wedding at the San Fransisco City Hall, I watched two old men in tuxedos help each other up the stairs in order to finally get married after over 30 years together. GMH.

When I did winter track in 9th grade, we had practice at the other high school in my town, so I didn't know the area well. I ran six miles in the wrong direction. Tired, I knocked at some house to ask for directions. Instead, the young couple who answered drove me all the way to the school. GMH

I woke up one morning to hear the birds outside my window and my mother cooking breakfast downstairs. I've never cried so much in my entire life. I had been deaf since the age of 8.

Today, I woke up and my wife was more beautiful than I'd ever seen her. We've been married 15 years. GMH

While I was working out I realized that I've lost over 50 lbs this past year by going to the gym nearly every day and eating right. After 5 years of struggling with my weight and participating in fad diets, I may still be overweight, but I'm finally starting to feel beautiful. It GMH.

A little girl was dying of cancer and her younger brother had a match for the bone marrow she needed. The doctors told him it was a matter of life and death. After he had the surgery, he asked the doctors how long he had to live. He thought if he gave his bone marrow to let his sister live he would die but he did it anyway. GMH

Today, I found GMH. After reading all the heartwarming stories, I walked into my room, and tore my suicide journal to shreds. I'm shaking out of happiness. GMH.

A boy was dying of cancer and needed an expensive brain surgery, but his family, broke and desperate, couldn't afford it. His 8 yr old took sister Tess took her piggy bank savings to a pharmacist in order to buy a 'miracle'. it just so happens that the right man witnessed the little girl's tears at the pharmacy counter: a neurosurgeon. He performed the surgery for free.

Today I found out about a 10-year-old boy who has been harrassed by his classmates because he refuses to say the Pledge of Allegiance. Why? He says that until gays and lesbians have equal rights, there isn't really "liberty and justice for all". Kids with the courage to stand up for their fellow human beings GMH.

I recently finished an amazing internship at a local high school and hoped to get a job there after graduation. Unfortunately the position I was hoping for ended up not opening. My boss contacted me recently and called me in to discuss job options. She told me she was willing to take a $7k pay cut to open a new position for me. GMH

Ten years ago, my friend made an enemy. They didn't click at all and I think my friend really hurt that person. Flash forward. My friend is broke w/ kids, & after getting into huge trouble, really needed a lawyer and was referred to one. The lawyer was her old enemy & she took the case. For free.

Today, I proposed to my girlfriend of four years in a nice restaurant. When she said yes, the entire restaurant stood up and applauded.

Understanding of true love GMH.

A girl I went to high school with was diagnosed with Leukimia her Junior year. She lost all of her hair due to the chemotherapy and was pretty upset about it. One day, eight of her closest friends came to school with shaved heads, saying it was just hair, and who cared - bald is the new in. GMH

Yesterday, I missed the bus to school, so my Muslim Afghani mother dropped me off with her headscarf on. I was scared about what the other kids would think when they saw her, but instead they bombarded me with questions about Islam and seemed fascinated to learn about another culture/religion. Their religious tolerance GMH!

Today, it has been almost three months since I have cut myself. Why?

On my last birthday, I got my late father's initials tattooed on my wrist. I don't care about ruining the tattoo, but it is now a constant reminder that it's wrong to violate what's his: Me.

Whoever said tattoos were only for rebellious teenagers? Mine GMH.

About a year ago, I found out that I was born from an unplanned pregnancy. My mom told me that my dad's only reaction was, that "If you don't want her, I do." My dad's dedication to my life, and constant love, GMH.

A month ago at my school, a transgender student was beaten to the ground for standing up to three other students who said that our campus hates gays. The next day, nearly half the entire campus rallied to show support of the LGBT community in the quad. The student that was beaten was crying. GMH.

Almost daily on my way home from work I would pass the same homeless man, and sometimes give him money when I had cash on me. One day he was suddenly gone. A week went by, then a couple months, then one day I bumped into him. He was dressed quite well, and handed me $100.00 and said "thanks, I finally got a job." GMH

Today, I read that Houston elected its first gay mayor. Open-minded people GMH.

When I was seven, I missed the school bus and didn't know my way home and was crying on the pavement. A group of 17-18yr old guys on their way to school saw me. Instead of laughing and walking by, they cheered me up and dropped me home by looking in my school books for my address. I've no idea who they were, but their care GMH.

A couple months ago, my little brother came home from his first day in kindergarten. When I asked him about his class, he said "there's a girl in my class, and she's so pretty!" The girl he was talking about is a bald 5 year old with leukemia. His unconditional love GMH.

Today, I saw one of the most popular seniors in my grade eat lunch with the wheelchair-bound, mentally-challenged freshman girl who is always by herself. She made the girl laugh and talked to her like she was no different than her other friends. The senior girl then invited her to go see Twilight this weekend. Her kindness GMH.

5 years ago, a friend from OK and I were talking about how we hardly ever get snow in TX. He said that he wished he could make it snow for me. Two years later, he died suddenly. By the time I found out, I had already missed the funeral. That same day, it snowed. Then it snowed again on my birthday. In April. Knowing he's watching over me GMH.

A long time ago, I was on the verge of committing suicide when a guy came to the roof to have lunch. He saw me climbing over the railing and asked me to share his lunch with him. After receiving my puzzled look, he explained, "everyone should die happy. or at least with a full stomach." We celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary last month. GMH.

Today, I was in the feminine-products aisle when a middle-aged man started asking me what brand I liked to use and which were the most effective, etc. It turns out that he is a single father to a preteen girl with Down Syndrome, and he was trying to find out which products work the best for his little girl. Caring, loving fathers GMH.

I was recently working at a nursery school where I saw a 3 year old girl wearing tights on her head. One of my colleagues told me it was because some of the children had been making fun of her bald head. She had had chemotherapy. I later saw one young boy of about 4 go over to her, tell her she was beautiful and remove the tights. GMH x

In my old neighborhood there were two homeless men that always spent their days together outside a nearby 7/11 with their dogs. After making my purchase, I gave them the money left over plus my allowance to buy some food. They went inside, coming out with a box of dog food. Their selflessness GMH.

I'm 16 and am about to have a baby. I work a minimum wage job with about 15 other people who are just barely making it. My boss told me that me being pregnant was making him look bad and that I need to quit. I did. So did everyone else working there.

One of my friends found out both her parents were hospitalized that same night. Financially unable to fly home, she went into work the next day - quietly mentioning her concern to a co-worker that she picks up every morning. Word got to her boss and he covered the flight expense and she was on her way home by that afternoon. Bosses with hearts GMH

A 5 year old boy in my town had leukemia. His wish for Make-a-Wish was to spend a day with Corbin Bleu (an actor in High School Musical), and he had a blast. Yesterday was the boy's funeral. Corbin flew in to our town with his dad and attended the funeral as a pallbearer. His selflessness GMH

I was diagnosed with a severe mental disease about a year ago. My boyfriend has put up with all of my paranoia, anger and odd things that I do. When i told him he should leave me because it wasn't fair to him, he said, "If i can't take you at your worst then i don't deserve you at your best." His unconditional love GMH.

When I was a child I had just been yelled at by my parents, and went down to cry beside my pet rat's cage. When she noticed I was crying, she walked to her food bowl, grabbed a cracker, and handed it to me through the bars. Loving pets GMH.

On night, a bunch of my friends and I were sitting on the ground, listening to a jazz concert. This random little boy, about 3 or 4 years old, comes up to my very critical friend and hands her a flower. She was smiling and happy for the rest of the night and couldn't stop mentioning the random little boy who was the first to ever give her flowers. GMH

This year I got divorced. When it came time to split our tax return like we'd agreed, at the last minute my ex-husband wrote me a check for the entire refund, even though he was completely entitled to half. It was $3000. When I asked him what he was doing he said, "I know you need it more than I do." Kind and generous people like him GMH.

An 11 year old girl in my area was kidnapped two days before Christmas. At first they didn't allow anyone but the police to search for her, but after a few days they announced that a public search party would be sent out, and anyone who wanted to look was to meet at the baseball stadium. 3,000 people showed up. It was Christmas morning. GMH.

I work as a waiter. One day a man was giving me a particularly hard time because his food wasn't fast enough and wasn't good enough, etc and all i wanted to do was cry. At the table behind him were four teenage girls, they left a 100% tip and a note saying 'Sorry that guy was such a jerk'. These girls GMH.

My grandpa is a white man who lived in South Africa during the apartheid. Despite criticism, judgement and even his brothers disowning him, he informally adopted a young black child whose mother could not look after him. Doing what you know is right despite it being frowned upon GMH.

Today, I came across a video of CNN reporter Anderson Cooper reporting the news in Haiti.

Chaotic looting had broken out all around him. Suddenly, the looting turned violent, and a young boy was laying on the ground, gushing blood.

In the chaos, Cooper stopped reporting, sprinted over, and dragged the stunned boy to safety. GMH

During WWII, my family's home in Western Russia was pillaged by the German Army.

After the fall of communism, an elderly man showed up to the now rebuilt house. He told my grandmother that he was a former German soldier, and he wanted to return the jewelry he stole from the house.

My freshmen year of highschool a sophmore girl with mental problems was elected to homecoming court as a cruel joke of some popular girls in her grade.

When our senior class president found out about this, he ditched his date, who was one of the leaders of the prank. He then asked the mentally disabled girl if he could be her escort to the dance.

My family and I disowned my sister for her years of her drugs and alcohol abuse. I found out she was in a homeless shelter so I picked her up and took her in. She has been sober for a year, and helps my brother every day with his baby because his wife is terminally ill with cancer. Now, she is the one holding the family together. GMH

I had a miserable day at class and was taking the bus home when the driver suddenly pulled over and ran off of it. An elderly woman had fallen on the sidewalk, she helped her up and stayed with her until someone came and picked her up. Not a SINGLE person on the bus complained about the wait. GMH.

When I was five, my best friend and I had a fake wedding. Today is our real one. His enduring love and friendship to this day GMH.

An immigrant manicurist living in DC returned to her native village in Ethiopia and saw children walking three hours each way to attend classes held under a tree. When she heard about her friend, a little girl, getting eaten by a hyena walking to school, she decided to raise money to build one. She set aside a whole third of her salary, plus tips, but it wasn't enough. So she did what all of us would do to raise money... sold her car and her house.

A few years ago I got too drunk at a party and was dragged into an alley to be raped. A fellow student heard the commotion and knocked my attacker unconscious. Apparently he stayed with us both until the ambulance and police came. He never told me his name. His Random act of bravery GMH.

Today I was in Best Buy. Three little girls walked into the store to buy the new Sims 3 game. Two of the girls got their copies, and a random man got the last copy, leaving out one of the little girls. In the checkout line, the man noticed one girl didn't get the game and he gave her his copy. GMH

Freshman year, there was a crippled girl bound to a wheelchair. For 4 years, she did physical therapy and progressed to crutches. When we graduated a few weeks ago, she handed her crutches to an officer and walked across the entire stage. The applause from the seniors was deafening. She cried the whole way. GMH

Today I caught my husband chewing anti-smoking gum.

I asked him why he suddenly decided to quit, him being a smoker for almost thirty years. He patted my pregnant stomach and told me that he didn't want our little girl to suffer once she was born.

I'm a camp counselor, and I was not having a good day -- the kids were out of sorts, I had a lot on my mind, and I was losing my temper easily. Then a 6-year-old camper came over and said to me, "If you were a little kid, and they told us to pick partners, I would pick you." It was so sweet and genuine, and it GMH.

Yesterday, while driving from LaPorte, IN to Chicago, my three friends and I spent the entire hour-long drive smiling and waving enthusiastically at every car that passed us. It was fun, and we sure made a lot of people smile. GMH

I was in class one day when my boyfriend, who had been deployed for two years, came walking into the classroom. I had no idea he was back in the States. I've never cried harder in my life then I did when I saw him walk in. As I was hugging him, he got down on one knee and proposed to me. We're getting married in the fall. GMH.

On the Today Show, they showed a story about a girl who was hospitalized and her fingers and toes were permanently horrificly deformed. She was devastated about missing her senior prom. Her friends got together and organized students into throwing another prom... entirely for her. GMH

One day in my friend's highschool, a bully shoved a boy down a flight of stairs and broke a few bones because the boy was gay.

My friend confronted the bully, got into a fight, and gave him a bloody nose. My friend is a tiny, shy italian girl who didn't even know the boy.

Two weeks before my senior prom and graduation I was attacked by a dog and had a huge chunk of my top lip missing. I was so upset and didn't even want to go to prom looking like that. My friends encouraged me to go and when the limousine picked me up they all had matching bandages on their mouths. They kept them on all night. GMH.

I use a power wheelchair on a college campus. One day, my chair battery died in the middle of campus with 3 more classes to attend and no way to get there. I quickly became a human baton, my 300 pound wheelchair being pushed though the rain by a series of strangers. I got to each of my classes and back home on time! Thank you relay team...you GMH!

Today when I walked into the student center at my college, there was a table raising money and awareness for victims of sexual assault on my campus. It was full of pamphlets with information on what to do if raped, and information on abusive relationships and ways to fight violence against women. The table was being run entirely by guys. GMH

When I entered middle school I saw this super cute seventh grade boy. I liked him ever since that day even though we NEVER talked. Then one day in my sophomore year he came up to me during lunch. He said, "You know, I've always thought you were beautiful." That blew me away. We have been married for 11 years. To this day he GMH.

A friend of mine does the lighting for Nickelback. While setting up for a show, he fell 12 feet landing on his head and back. He was not insured and the band paid for all his hospital bills, flew out his girlfriend, his mom, and aunt, and paid for their food and lodging for 2 weeks. Nickelback GMH.

Yesterday, it was late and I was heading to my car in the parking lot after work and three young guys come up to me and start talking. I was scared, until one draped his arm around me and silently showed me a text on his phone, telling me there was a dodgy guy following me and that they would make sure I got to my car safely. Their kindness GMH.

I reversed out of a parking bay into a car! When the man returned to his I thought he would be furious.Turns out he works at a garage; he laughed and told me not to worry.I thanked him and gave him my details in case.I took my car into a garage to get it fixed...it happened to be my 'victims' and he fixed it for free for me! GMH (and helps my student account)

Two years ago, I tried to kill myself by swallowing a bottle of painkillers. My online friend, who I'd never met, was the only person who knew. He called 911, they pumped my stomach to save my life. Today, I got my bachelor's degree in sociology. I'm now going to grad school. GMH

2 days ago, I found that she was an organ donor.

1 day ago, I heard that a nine year old boy now had her heart.

Today, I met that nine year old boy. He told me that because he had my best friend's heart, he'd be my best friend now.

When my father kicked me out at 17, my best friend's mom took me in without hesitation. She also baked my birthday cake that year, took me prom dress shopping and threw my graduation party. She's a single mom of three girls. Women who support kids who aren't theirs GMH.

I was picked on all through high school for the way I looked. The day of my senior ball, I was crying because I didn't have a date and I thought I looked ugly. At the dance the most popular and beautiful girl in school looked me dead in the eyes, smiled, and told me I looked gorgeous. She GMH

Today, I found out that the police arrested my parents for abusing me. Who's going to be my new guardian? My 25-year-old brother, whom I haven't seen in 7 years. He reported them, and is keeping his promise of coming back to save me. I love you, B. You GMH

Last May, I tried to kill myself. When I got home from the hospital, my family barely said a word.

I went to bed in tears, until my little brother woke me up and dragged me onto our garage roof. He sat and watched the stars with me for two hours, telling me he loved me, and that he wants to make everything better.

I discovered this article about ironworkers on the Golden Gate Bridge who save lives. They'll get up at 3 AM to prevent suicide attempts. But the most amazing thing is: It's all voluntary. They all take turns. This GMH.

When I was at the store, a family couldn't afford all of the groceries they were going to buy. As they were putting the ones they could afford in their cart (which wasn't that much) the lady behind them said "I will pay for them." The family thanked her repeatedly. This happened 5 years ago and I still smile when I think about it. GMH.

Two years ago, my husband and I were planning to get divorced. My mother was dying of ovarian cancer and didn't know we were separating. Her last wish was for us to work out our problems and not get divorced, so we agreed we had to at least try. I've never been happier. I've never looked back. GMH

This spring, I helped out at my school's prom, monitoring the voting for prom queen and king. When the winners were announced, they came as no surprise. A very popular girl, and Shane, who had been surrounded by the prettiest girls all night. Oh, but Shane? He has Down Syndrome. My generation GMH.

When I was 11, my Dad and I caught a newly homeless woman who had packed up her kids and left her abusive husband, stealing the grocery bags from our car. He asked her to put them back, told her not to steal in front of her kids, gave her $100 and directions to the nearest women's and children's shelter. GMH

I work as a receptionist at a dentist's office and we have to deal with people taking their anger out on us. Today a woman yelled at us for ten minutes and it was awful .However, our next patient came with cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory. He said he bought it just for us because were are the best receptionist staff he's ever met and it GMH!

A new nurse has just started working with me at a local nursing home.

It took me a while to find out about him, but i learnt he also volunteers for Riding for the Disabled, is the captain of the Rural Fire Service and runs an ENTIRE branch of Meals on Wheels.

He is 18. Men like him GMH

My mom told me today about a lady who had come into her store last night. At one point, she had brain cancer and three days to live. After that, she got breast cancer and had it surgically removed, giving her tumors. She has had ten surgeries and breast cancer four times, and has survived each one. She's still positive each day. GMH

Today I was going out for a coffee with my boyfriend. On the way I passed a homeless man and gave him $5. When I got to Starbucks my boyfriend dumped me. I walked home crying, and when I passed the homeless man he told me how sorry he was, and offered to buy me a coffee. He used the $5 I gave him, and smiled proudly as he handed over the money. GMH

3 years ago, I was at my grade 8 dance. A boy in our school named Brian (who has Williams' syndrome) asked a popular girl at our school to dance . Her and her friends began to laugh at him, and then said no. He then went to the corner of the gym to dance by himself. I then saw another girl in my class go up and ask him to dance. They did. GMH

After what I thought was a disastrous haircut, I went home feeling down. When my brother came home, he immediately exclaimed "i love your hair!" He even took a picture of it and set it as his wallpaper. I can't remember the last time he ever gave me a compliment. GMH

My grandma recently had knee surgery and tried to tell my grandpa that he didn't need to spend all weekend at the hospital with her. He simply replied with, "Didn't I say in sickness and in health?" Their love GMH.

Last year, a couple days before xmas, I was babysitting a 5 year old girl and a 3 year old boy. The girl really wanted to make cookies, but I said we could only make one batch because otherwise there would be too many. She said 'that's ok, we can give them to the homeless people, they like cookies, right?' - And that's exactly what we did. GMH

One day, I was riding the EL during rush hour. A blind man came on the train. A nice woman gave him her seat, then asked if he needed any help. Turns out he wasn't very familiar with Chicago, so she got off three stops early to make sure he got to where he needed to be. People like her GMH!

My little brother was very sick with Pneumonia, and my parents hadn't been sleeping well, having to get up and help him every few hours to change the settings on the air purifier to make him comfortable. One morning, my dad was sleepwalking around the house, telling us he was "Making a robot" to help Alex. Being a loving dad, even while asleep, GMH

Today is my birthday. A couple months ago I was attacked by a dog that left horrendous scars on my face. My boyfriend made a book that says "You're the most beautiful thing I have ever seen" in over 100 different languages. GMH

A couple of days ago, I was watching the news and heard that a dog saved an 11-year-old boy from a cougar attack. The dog, Angel, was severely injured, while the boy escaped.

A few days later, the boy's family received hundreds of letters from people across N. America to help pay for the dog's surgery.

I have a little sister who suffers from mental retardation. My mother told her I was gay and that "gay people don't go to heaven'. My sister started sobbing saying, "It wouldn't be heaven if Paloma wasn't there." My sister's unconditional love GMH.

Today, I was walking in a dog park. I reached this really steep hill, and noticed someone rolling down it, laughing the whole way. At first I passed it off as a just a kid. Then I noticed that it was a woman at least 60 years old, and that her husband was waiting at the bottom of the hill to catch her. They GMH

One day, all my girl campers were talking about how they wanted to wear princess dresses to camp the next day. A little boy then came up to them and said "girls, you're all beautiful just the way you are." Kids GMH.

When I was 14, I was homeless. A couple who only knew me from buying things from their convenience store in my town gave me no choice but to move in with them and their two daughters. My drug addicted mother gave them constant trouble for taking me in, but they never gave me up. I am now in my second year in medical school. Their selfless love GMH

One of my best friends mother was murdered two weeks ago on the night of my friends prom. I never imagend she would get all the support that she has gotten. She is not a popular person in school. We graduated one week ago and she received a standing ovation from the crowd. It lasted 10 minutes. GMH

After suffering a series of severe strokes, my boyfriend's dad was about to be taken off of life support. When we went in to say our goodbyes, he squeezed our hands, even though he was still unconscious. Today, nearly 8 months later, you can barely tell he ever had a stroke. GMH

On valentine's day, our hockey team played a game. Nobody missed the game despite the fact most of them had dates. After the game, my dad handed out a rose to every girl on our team. His love gives me hope.

Today, while in my morning lecture one of my classmates had a seizure. Within seconds the boy behind her had grabbed her expensive laptop and put away her table, while another boy ran across the room to hold her, so she wouldn't hurt herself. A few months ago, I went to a pre-school to help some teachers out with the kids. I had just broken up with my boyfriend, and I was really down the whole day. But then one little boy gave me a drawing of the house we would live in when he married me. He told me he loved me. GMH.

A few years ago, we were having financial difficulties. My big brother and I were told not to expect Christmas presents. When I woke up Christmas morning, I found presents for me under the tree. My brother had wrapped up his favorite toys so I would have Christmas presents. Brothers like Jake GMH.

I'm a 17 year old male that has spent the last 4 years working through anorexia. Yesterday, I had a large order of French Toast with eggs and bacon for breakfast, a cheese burger and French fries for lunch, and a steak with mashed potatoes and corn for dinner. I have never felt so attractive. GMH

The day after a huge snow storm I had a presentation that I completely bombed. I needed something to cheer me up so I decided to write 'SMILE' on the snow near a busy road. A week later I saw somebody had taken a picture of it and put it on Facebook. There were about 40 comments saying how people already seen it and how it made their day. GMH

Last week, a very hateful group announced that would be protesting outside my college's center for Jewish life. They planned to carry hateful signs and to jeer at Jewish students. When they arrived, they were met by 1,000 students and professors standing in the rain, and left quickly because they could not be heard over the songs of love. It GMH

He cannot hear nor speak very well which keeps people from talking to him. As I looked over one day I saw him sitting at the table with a cute blonde girl across from him. She was signing to him, and he was laughing, smiling, and signing back.

I was in line to get a sandwich and saying to my friend that I felt fat, having gained 10 pounds this summer because of a medical condition i'm getting surgery for soon. The man behind the counter, a very cute teenage guy, gave me my drink for free. When I asked him why, he replied that "he was a sucker for beautiful girls" and winked. He GMH

Yesterday, my nan was supposed to be coming out of hospital after seventeen days of admittance. Something went wrong and she couldn't get an ambulance home. A nurse did everything in her power to get my nan home that night, and paid for a wheel-chair accessible taxi cab herself, without even mentioning she was going to fund it. GMH

Today, I went to a store and bought a coat. I suffered severe burns on my face when I was a toddler, and have always been very insecure. As I was leaving the store wearing the coat, I found a note in the pocket from the cashier, who I've never met. It said, "You're beautiful." I read it every day. GMH

In high school, there was a man who every day sat on his mobile scooter and waved to every car that passed.

Touched by his kindness, I decided to bake him cookies. When I delivered them, I realized he couldn't speak as a result of a past stroke. Instead, he kissed me on the cheek to show his thanks. He died 3 years ago.

When I was young, I was often bullied by classmates and dreaded recess for it. One day my third grade teacher asked if I'd rather stay inside and draw with her. I loved it and after that she encouraged my new found hobby further. I now work as an art director for a large videogame company. She GMH.

Saw this on FML: "Today, I went to buy lunch at a grocery store. The total was 3 pounds, and my card got rejected for insufficient funds. I fished about for change, and found I only had 2 pounds. A homeless man behind me in the queue then offered to give me the remaining pound. A homeless man paid my lunch. FML"

Today, I came out of the closet to my extremely-Christian parents after hiding it in fear for more than seven years. They hugged me and told me that no matter what path I chose, they would always love me for who I am. :) GMH

Three years ago, almost to the day, I left a note in a guy from my French class' textbook asking him to call me. That day, being the last day of school and the last day I would ever see him, I told him to check inside his book, before I ran away. We're still together. Take that chance.

I just read an amazing article about a little girl with cancer whose dying wish was to see Up! She was too sick to attend the theatre. Upon hearing this, Pixar sent over a staffer with gifts and a DVD. She couldn't open her eyes, so her mom described it. She passed away that night after seeing it. GMH.

A few weeks ago, I watched my 3 year old niece cross the finish line by herself at a run/walk, refusing to let anyone even hold her hands. The run/walk was held in her honor. She was in a car accident 8 months before. Doctors said she would never live off machines. She has a ways to go, but she GMH.

My mother loved kids. A lot. She taught at a local head start school for many years. When she got cancer she refused to quit working fo the kids. They had to change the locks on the door to make her stay home because she was so sick. A year after she died, they named the school after her. GMH.

This past Mother's Day, I had visited my Grandmother's grave in the cemetery.

On her grave site laid a rose with a note attached "to a lovely woman who lead a wonderful life, Happy Mother's Day". As I looked around other grave sites had roses as well.

A few years ago, I found out my boyfriend had cheated on me. I called my best friend, who had just had her wisdom teeth out that day, and all I could choke out between sobs was, "I need you." In pain and on meds, she had her mom drive her over to my house ASAP so she could be with me. Friendship GMH

I work in an airport. Today, a group of around 50 Army soldiers got off one of our flights, about 5 at a time, coming home. In an instant, the entire concourse got on their feet and gave a standing ovation until every last soldier got off the plane. GMH

Last week, I was at the airport when I saw a group of soldiers in uniform. A little 4ish-year-old girl saw them, too. She walked away from her family, towards the soldiers, stood up straight, and saluted them. At least 20 shocked people stared while she walked back to her family, completely unfazed. GMH

Today, I realized I only have three more finals before I get my bachelor's degree. I'm 39. GMH

I read on MSNBC an 11-yr-old graduated from college with honors and a degree in astrophysics. He's also a national martial arts champion, and he's writing a book teaching kids how to succeed in school. "I feel it's a waste of time playing video games because it's not helping humanity in any way." He wants to use his knowledge to change the world. GMH

I work at the National Student Leadership Conference. During a session, one of the students fell and broke his back, and was hospitalized. Without being told, the rest of the students emptied their pockets to raise $600 toward his hospital bills in 3 minutes. GMH.

Today, as I was walking my dog down a busy street, I sneezed. A man stopped his car, and rolled down his window, just to say "God bless you". GMH

Exactly 8 months ago my grandpa lost his battle with cancer. By the end he couldn't talk and wouldn't respond to any of us. A few moments before he took his last breath, he looked at my grandma and said clear as day "I love you". They were married 51 years. GMH!!

My uncle's 13 year old son died in November. He is a member of the army, and he was to go to Iraq for a second tour in May. His boss wanted to make sure my aunt didn't lose a son and a husband in the same year. He took my uncle's place and is in Iraq - for a third time - instead. Men like him GMH.

I got my first boyfriend at age 16, and soon after I was diagnosed w/ multiple sclerosis. Soon after, I developed a bad limp and have trouble walking. But, he's stayed with me for 5 years. He still takes care of me and tells me I'm beautiful everyday. Now, we're engaged. GMH

My family and I were shocked to hear that my aunt and uncle had sold their gorgeous home and bought an old armory. They had already raised two children and could have relaxed and retired in 10-15 years. They're turning the armory into a battered women and children's shelter. GMH.

The other day at a track meet, my friend found $250 on the ground and turned it into the lost and found but nobody claimed it, so she got to keep it. Everyone told her to spend it on a shopping spree or jewlery, even our coaches. A week later I found out she had gotten gift cards to the local food store and gave them to families in need. GMH

One day, I was walking in the mall with my friends when the lady in front of us turns around and says to me "You have on the cutest outfit today." Smiles then returns talking on her cell phone. The part that gets me the most is that she stopped dead in conversation just to give me a compliment. The world needs more people like her. GMH.

I have wished for a pony every 11:11 since I was 10 years old. At first because I wanted one so badly, later because I didn't want to accept the fact that 11:11 doesn't actually work. Yesterday I came back from a final and there was a rocking horse in the middle of my room from my suitemates. GMH

A long time ago, I went to see a band at a small club in Chicago, the band was unknown and broke.

After the show, they scraped up enough money to go and buy fast food for all the homeless men near the club.

Freshman year, there was a crippled girl bound to a wheelchair.

For 4 years, she did physical therapy and progressed to crutches.

When we graduated a few weeks ago, she handed her crutches to an officer and walked across the entire stage.

The applause from the seniors was deafening. She cried the whole way.

I was talking with this little girl I used to babysit for before I started college. I explained to her that I'd be gone for a while and would only see her when I came home for vacations. She said, "So you'll be gone for the whole year except summer and holidays?" I nodded. Then she said, "So you're going to Hogwarts?" GMH

When I was 4 years old, my family went on a Disney cruise. I was so excited...but I ended up getting sea sick. As I gloomily watched the other kids play with Mickey, I felt a someone tap my shoulder. It was Donald Duck. He stayed by my side the entire time, making sure I was having fun. To this day, he's still my favorite character. Donald Duck GMH

Everyday before school my senior year, I would volunteer with disabled kids. On prom night, I noticed they weren't dancing with each other. I asked my date if it was okay to leave him for a slow dance to be with the kids, and he not only let me but danced with one of the disabled kids himself. GMH

A few months ago a man sending a bid in for a job by fax was in my store and he was a couple dollars short. I told him not to worry about it, and good luck with the bid. He came in today, handed me a $20, and told me he got the job, and thank you. GMH

Today my boyfriend and I spent the entire day together. While we were laying on the grass and talking, he told me I made him the happiest man on earth. My boyfriend has been clinically depressed for the last 6 months. This definitely GMH.

I was always shy in high school, new to the area, felt like people didn't care, & just lived in the background. Then at graduation I got an award for never missing a day of school since kindergarten & as I walked onstage, everyone gave me a standing ovation. It was the happiest I've ever felt. GMH

I used to work as a restaurant hostess. One day, a gentleman came in, obviously hung over, and asked me to find a particular server for him. Turns out he'd had a lavish dinner, drank too much wine, and woke up the next morning realizing he hadn't tipped well. He drove back just to give his server an envelope full of cash. GMH

A few years ago, I attended Ball State University. I saw a guy dressed in a strange manner, riding a motorized scooter shouting 'Happy Friday!' to everyone up and down the main drag while handing out candy. I thought he was just some fraternity pledge until he returned every Friday. It turns out he did it just to see people smile. He GMH.

At my college graduation everyone is allowed to take a loved one with them as they walk across the stage. The last girl to walk across held the arm of her 90 year old grandpa. As they crossed the stage the chancelor read her grandfathers name. He graduated 60 years ago but didn't get to walk his own graduation because he was fighting in WWII. GMH.

Today, I saw an old coworker from the company I got fired from. I told her how I haven't had a job in a year and how I'm a month away from foreclosure. She told me that she got promoted to the head of my old department. She offered me my job back. She GMH.

A few years ago I was living with my best friend, he was very into the way he looked but everywhere he went with me he walked around with a studded belt around his forehead, so people wouldn't just stare at me in my halo brace GMH

This week we found out that our 18month puppy would need surgery to remove the ball of string she swallowed. The Animal Hosp was going to charge us $3000, which we could never afford. They let us bring her home to say goodbye, and we made arrangements with the local vet to put her to sleep. Instead he offered to do the surgery free. GMH.

Today, I attended my late grandma's funeral. In the middle of it, while I was struggling to maintain my composure, 12 friends from college showed up. My friends drove 80.18 miles and have NEVER met this woman. I'm a freshman. Friends like these GMH.

Yesterday, I finally admitted to my best friend that I have been self-harming for six years now. Telling her was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. Today, I came to school to see 20 of my friends with "Love" written on their arms to show me how much they cared and that they were there to support me through my recovery. Love & Friendship GMH.

Today, I got tripped by a random 6th grader at our school's registration. I sat out in the open and cried after I scraped my knee deep, and nobody seemed to care. Then, a cute little boy at about the age of 4 walked up to me and gave me a hug and a kiss on the cheek and said, "Itto be ow-kay!" His cuteness and kindness GMH

Today, I was chewing gum and I blew a huge bubble which popped all over my face and glasses. I take off my glasses and peeled off the gum my two year old cousin asks me 'Why did you take your glasses off?' I said 'because theyre dirty and I'm stupid.' her response? 'No, you're not' Her innocence GMH

The other day I was taking a little girl from my sunday school class to the bathroom. On the way back, she saw the missions trip bulletin board with picture of people from past missions. She pointed to it, and said "When I get older, I'm going to help poor people." Little girls like her GMH

There are two kids at Purdue University who stand on a corner and smile, laugh, and compliment every person who walks by. They say the SWEETEST things and they brighten everyone's days! :) People like that GMH!

2 boys at my church adopted a child from Africa, and told their mom that they wanted to give her all their allowance for the rest of the year. Then, they went home and began stuffing toys in bags, giving most of what they had to their mom and asking her to send it to their orphan friend. They GMH.

For years, I have been donating $10/month to sponsor YMCA memberships for poor kids, but never seeing the results. Then during a basketball game I coached, one kid asked if he could play just the second half. I asked why. "Because my brother is wearing the shoes." His brother is on the on the other team. They share one pair of shoes. GMH

My white friend was holding an African baby while on a mission trip. One of the little girls from the village came up to her and asked "is that your baby?" Her lack of racial barriers GMH.

When I first got pregnant I had a bit of bleeding. Of course panicked of a miscarriage I went to the hospital. Before leaving my son kissed my belly and told me "Don't worry mama, the baby is okay, God told me so" I'm due in 1 week with a baby girl My son's love GMH

One day I received in the mail from my grandmother a little slip of paper from an article asking kids "what does love mean?". One boy answered, "Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other", this 5 yr old GMH.

I'm 22 years old and I'm about to go on my first date. I've never felt so beautiful. GMH.

Today on Facebook I found a group created by a guy who found someone's camera while traveling. He really wants to return the camera, which is full of memories, but has no idea who it belongs to. 230,000 people have joined the group to pass along the message. Kindness GMH.

UPDATE: The good will of 250,000 people created a stir that rippled into an office in London, where a group of French people were recognized, one being the owner.

Today I was crying because I felt ugly and unloved and my 8 year old nephew that lives in the room next to mine comes in my room and tells me whoever doesn't think I'm the most beautiful girl in the world will get their butts kicked by him. I love my nephew, and he always GMH

Years ago me and some friends were sitting in a fast food place eating our burgers when a little boy turned around from his meal and while looking at us said to his mother "look at the pretty girls mommy". I'll never forget that. It was the first time someone said i was pretty. He GMH.

My aunt was explaining to my five year old cousin that people got married because they loved each other and were each others best friends he replied that he was going to marry his best friend too. His best friend is a boy. His innocence GMH

Today, in a bookstore, I heard a kid of about seven walk in and say, in an awed voice, "This is an amazing place! There are so many books here!", then go over to the new nonfiction table and ask his mother to read him the books there. His curiosity GMH.

A couple of years ago, when I was a sophomore in high school, I went on my very first date. When the door bell rang my mom got up to go answer the door, but my brother told her that he wanted to do it. When he opened the door he told my date that if anything happened to me that he would personally beat him up. He was only 11 years old. His love GMH

Toward the end of last year, my father lost his job. On December 20th, my family opened the mailbox to find four gift certificates to our favorite restaurants and department stores with a note attached that read "Merry Christmas! -Anonymous." I still don't know who it was from, but it still GMH.

My youngest brother died unexpectedly while I was studying abroad. A cab driver found me crying alone in a phone booth after midnight. He offered me help and a cup of tea; arranged a 73+ km cab ride for me so I could make my morning flight home. I never even learned his name. The kindness of that stranger GMH

The other day, I went to the grocery store to pick up a few things. While walking through the parking lot, I noticed a man stand on his shopping cart, and give a few good pushes before jumping on. He smiled and laughed the entire way, loving life. He was about 50 and wearing a business suit. GMH.

An elderly woman who cannot leave the house lives next to me. Her mailbox is sealed shut and has a permit on it instructing mail carriers to bring her mail to the letterbox attached to her door. Every day our mailman parks his car, brings her mail in and asks if she needs anything lifted, opened, etc., and visits with her for 20+ minutes . He GMH.

My mother raised three girls without any support from my father. We lived in a two bedroom apartment, my sister and i shared a room, my eldest sister in the other. My mom slept in the living room, for 11 years. We never missed a meal, never wanted for anything. She only made at most $26,000 a year. My Mom GMH.

When i was 6, I had to get a bone removed from my neck. I was crying at the hospital. A 4 year old kid came up to me, asked why I was crying, then proceeded to make me a fake hamburger in the play center. It GMH.

Earlier this year my family had been evicted from our home. We went to different places but I often ended up staying on the streets. I told a close friend of mine and his dad overheard what happened. He bought me food every day and let me stay over every night until things got better. He GMH.

Today, I was stood up by a guy I was seeing. I sat at the restaurant for a half and hour. Finally I ordered, the waiter and hostess (who are engaged) sat with me and talked. Then they did something I didn't see coming... they paid for my meal. I will never forget them. :D GMH.

Today, a woman whose groceries I rang up, paid with her foodstamps card, and then waited at the end of my line looking for someone. I gave her a confused look and she said, "I'm just looking for the sweet old lady I was talking with, if she doesn't have a cart full, I want to pay for her groceries." GMH

My grandmother is in the hospital, and has been for the last few months. Every morning, my grandfather wakes up, and drives to the hospital to sit with her, even if it's just to touch her leg to reassure her he's still there. He spends all day there, and I've overheard nurses say how they wish they could have a husband like that. Love GMH

Today I was walking in the park and saw some teenage boys on a bench around my age. They looked like the typical kind that loiter outside of stores, so I was surprised to see a little kid with them. I turned to say a quick hi and realized the kid was holding one of their guitars. They were teaching him to play. Positive influences GMH.

Found out today that my grandpa, a 91-year-old career Army colonel, will not fulfill his wish of being buried at the base he served his entire career at when he wasn't overseas. The reason? The cemetary is now full, and he donated his reserved plot to a 22-year-old soldier killed in action in Iraq. His honor GMH.

I work at Tim Hortons, and everyday when we close we have to throw out all of the donuts, muffins, bagels etc. Yesterday, 5 minutes before we closed a lady came in and asked what we do with all the food at the end of the day, we told her we have to throw it out. She bought everything we had left and took it to a homeless shelter. People like her GMH.

There is a homeless guy in our town that a coworker of mine at times buys food for. She lost her wallet one day with $400 cash. She went back to the Jack in the Box a few days later & the homeless guy ran up to her with her wallet, it had fallen out of her purse - all $400 remained. He GMH.

On the weekend my friend accidentally left her wallet, which only had 35c in it, in the back of a taxi. Four days later, she found her wallet in her mail box, with $50 and a note inside: "We can see you need some money, so we're sending you some! - Marge and Jim (Parents of 4 previously "always poor" uni students). Their kindness GMH.

I found this video of a woman who has created a sanctuary for all of the cats that would otherwise be killed -- she is currently sheltering about 700 cats. Montreal's bus drivers aren't known for their kindness, especially to english speaking tourists. Buses were going back to the station for the night, and after getting on the wrong one, I ended up stranded across town, alone and terrified. Another bus driver drove 50 minutes to bring me right to my hotel's doors, just to make sure i was safe. GMH.

The other day I walked into the bathroom in a local bookstore, and noticed some graffiti on the wall. I then realized that someone had written "You are beautiful" backwards on the wall so that you could read it in the mirror. That GMH. (Editor's Note: Operation Beautiful for more like these!)

Recently I was at a convention with my friends, eating lunch, and then a man, in his early twenties, ran up to us asking if we had a spare tampon. We didn't, and saw him run off to all the other girls in the room, asking them, since his girlfriend needed one. I don't know a man who would do that for me. His love for her GMH.

Every once in awhile I take an alternate path at school to 7th period. Every time I do, I always see the same freshman boy holding the door to the building open for the entire student body. I thank him every time. He GMH.

In 1996, my family's home was set on fire about a month before school started. We lost everything and had to start all over again. That fall, i met a girl in my class who gave me half of her toys at random. Her reasoning for this was because she wanted me to have things to play with too. We were in Kindergarden.

An online writer lost her father, leaving her mother unable to pay rent and at risk of being removed from her home. A group of the writer's friends gave enough money to make the rent and help towards the next month's. The friends were anonymous readers of the writer's online comic. The kindness of strangers GMH.

My brother has cerebral palsy and has spent his life in and out of ICU's. During one stay, a local business owner was there providing a laptop for a college bound brilliant but handicapped girl. He got to talking with my mom and ended up arranging to grant my brother's deepest wish -- a meet and greet with all the members of the NY Knicks. GMH

My car broke down in the middle of a very busy road at around 1 AM. Two men stopped & helped me push my car to the side of the road. A cop was driving by & offered to stay with me until a tow truck arrived, and sat with me for over an hour waiting. He was off duty, just getting off an 8 hr shift. GMH

My aunt was dying of breast/bone cancer, and was completely broke and in a ton of pain, yet when she found out her hospice nurse needed a new pair of sneakers, she gave her everything she could: a jar of change she'd been saving for 10 years. Her memory GMH

My friend's younger sister was coming home by herself when a guy on the bus began hassling her. An elderly man on the other side of the bus stood up and demanded that the guy "leave his granddaughter alone". The guy stopped, and got off at the next stop. The elderly man was a stranger. GMH.

At the grocery store I work at, a young lady with a baby just got done scanning her cartfull or groceries, but both of her cards were denied and she had no cash. She quietly asked to have them put back, when the man behind her said 'I'll pay for them' and smiled. They were total strangers. GMH

i work at the front desk of a nice hotel. very often i get distressed travelers who just need directions to another hotel they cant find. I always give them a map, directions (mapquested if needed), freshly baked cookies (we keep them around for guests), a bottle of water and even some candy if theyre interested. each surprised smile GMH

When my dad suddenly died, my girlfriend came with me to my parents' house for a week where she cooked every meal, babysat my three nieces, fed the dog, cleaned the house, and spent a lot of her own money on groceries. I later learned her boss didn't want to let her have the week off, so she quit her job to hold my family together. Her love GMH.

Today, I was babysitting three young children with my boyfriend. The three year old girl is in full foot to chest braces. We were playing outside and she said to my boyfriend "I can't run like my brother and sister" and he replied "yes but you can fly" and picked her up and flew her around all day. I have never seen her so happy. His love GMH

Two years ago today I was stuck over night in the chicago airport. The airport refused to get us a hotel, rental car or money for food. However, one woman working for the airport bookstore opened up her store for me so I could purchase Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and read it at midnight.

My father is an eye surgeon. One day we saw a TV show about a blind toddler being raised by his single father. My dad recognized the symptoms of the blindness and knew that it could be treated through surgery. He gave the surgery to the kid for free and now he can see. My father's sense of duty GMH.

Watching the news I heard about an SUV that had caught fire, inside was a mom and her two young children. They all survived with fairly minor burns. The only reason they made it was because everyone who saw the fire rushed to help and break down all the windows and pull them out, before the firemen could even arrive.

Every year, the graduating 8th grade class votes for superlatives. The teachers add up the votes. When 'Jordan A' was announced for Most Inspirational, teachers were in tears to see our entire class who never get along, give a standing ovation. He died in a fire in fourth grade and we still consider him part of our class.

Today, I went on an airplane by myself for the first time. I have an extreme fear of heights and I'm only 15. As the flight was about to take off a flight attendant noticed i was shaking and gripping the seat. She took the empty seat next to me and held my hand until we were safely in the air and then brought me a brownie. People like her GMH.

I work at a veterinary clinic and a client came in and handed me a small bouquet of flowers she had picked from her garden, "Happy Fourth of July from Racer." Racer is one of my favorite feline patients. Kind gestures GMH

My younger brother was born with a severe disability. My parents are his main caretakers and the thought of what will happen to him when they're gone has always scared me. I confided this in my boyfriend recently and without skipping a beat, he said "we'll take him." His understanding GMH.

Today, I saw a boy asking an elderly lady if he could help carry her groceries to her car. He was 7. GMH.

We were having some financial trouble due to some medical emergencies, and were not going to be able to make rent.I put in our notice, and the landlord asks how much we COULD afford to pay - I told her maybe $500, much less then we were paying. She lowered our rent to $500, permanently. She GMH.

Every 1000 bottle caps my friends mom collects, a 4 year old girl gets a free round of chemo. While i was at my brothers baseball game, collecting bottle caps, 3 little boys asked me what i was doing. They went around to every trash can, not caring what was in them & got bottle caps. We ended up with over 1500 caps. Their generation GMH.

Today on the bus, a man got up to give an old woman his seat. He was even older than she was. He GMH

Cancer claimed my daughter's life 3 years ago. Just a few weeks ago I attended what would have been her high school graduation. When the valedictorian and salutatorian, her friends, rose to give their speech, tears poured down my face. They dedicated their graduation to my daughter. GMH.

When I was in high school, I got asked to prom by a boy in the CDC. I said yes. Even though he was in a wheelchair he ended up dancing with every girl there. I've never seen him smile so much in my life. His mom thanked me a hundred times for going to prom with him, because it made his night. GMH

Today I bought lemonade from a girl who has been at the same place everyday, almost all day, all summer. it turns out she is there to raise money for her little sister who has cancer. She told me she has raised $3000 this summer alone. Her dedication and love for her sister GMH

Today, while at work a young boy (about 5) and his father came through my register. The dad scolded him for touching everything saying that the lady would call the cops and they'd both get sent to jail. He grinned up at his dad and said 'If we're in jail we can play together everyday!' His innocence GMH.

My brother has Down Syndrome and doesn't speak very well. This week while we were down the beach he tried to learn how to skim board.He would try and ask the other boys how they did it and they would laugh at him and walk away. The last day 4 teenage boys spent hours with him teaching him. They were so patient. He wouldn't stop smiling :)They GMH.
