I woke up one morning to hear the birds outside my window and my mother cooking breakfast downstairs. I've never cried so much in my entire life. I had been deaf since the age of 8.

I was at a bookstore and an obscure author was doing a book signing. Nobody was coming over--he looked dejected. Then three teenagers came over, got his autograph & took pictures with him. It looked like it made his day. Later, I talked to them and they said they had never read his books. GMH

Around Christmas, my aunt was buying some ham at her grocer. After talking to the butcher about how she doesn't have much money to spend on gifts, he labeled her ham and said "Merry Christmas." When she got to the cashier, she realized he'd purposely mislabeled the ham to the least expensive meat. GMH

My father was diagnosed with cancer and passed away 4 years ago. Recently, I stopped by his online blog. I found out my son had been leaving him comments, saying things like how he missed him, and how he is studying hard in school, and that he would study hard to find a cure to cancer so that people wont miss their grandfather like he does. I work at Tim Hortons, and everyday when we close we have to throw out all of the donuts, muffins, bagels etc. Yesterday, 5 minutes before we closed a lady came in and asked what we do with all the food at the end of the day, we told her we have to throw it out. She bought everything we had left and took it to a homeless shelter. People like her GMH.

When I was 15 I tried to kill myself by taking an entire bottle of pills. I went and laid on the top bunkbed so that I could die and then I heard my baby brother laugh. I used all my strength to fall off my bunkbed so that someone would hear it and find me. I am now 29 with a college degree and newly married. My baby brother GMH.

Today in the Walmart parking lot I saw an older couple, not exactly what you would call fit, leaving the store. The woman was carrying a bag and the man leaned over and took it from her. Thats when I saw him whisper something in her ear. Suddenly she broke into a run, as did he. She won the race to the truck. Her prize was a kiss. GMH.

I got my first boyfriend at age 16, and soon after I was diagnosed w/ multiple sclerosis. Soon after, I developed a bad limp and have trouble walking. But, he's stayed with me for 5 years. He still takes care of me and tells me I'm beautiful everyday. Now, we're engaged. GMH

Today I was going out for a coffee with my boyfriend. On the way I passed a homeless man and gave him $5. When I got to Starbucks my boyfriend dumped me. I walked home crying, and when I passed the homeless man he told me how sorry he was, and offered to buy me a coffee. He used the $5 I gave him, and smiled proudly as he handed over the money. GMH

Two years ago, I tried to kill myself by swallowing a bottle of painkillers. My online friend, who I'd never met, was the only person who knew. He called 911, they pumped my stomach to save my life. Today, I got my bachelor's degree in sociology. I'm now going to grad school. GMH

My mum is a single parent supporting 3 children and has been in and out of work for several years. To get a little extra money, she rents out rooms, meaning she has to sleep in a van parked outside. Today, the man renting her room bought and cooked a steak dinner for every single member of my family. He ate leftovers out of the fridge. GMH.

My family lives from paycheck to paycheck, and it often means that we have to go without groceries. When I overcame my pride and managed to tell my best friend about our money problems, she bought me lunch every single day for my entire grade eleven school year and wouldn't let me try to pay her back. She GMH.

I was on the edge yesterday. I felt broken like no matter what we do we can not get ahead. I just set down on the floor and started crying. My two year old son came up to me, wiped the tears from my face and told me it would be ok. He smiled and kissed me. He gave me the strength to get back up because we may not have much, but we have love. GMH

Watching the news I heard about an SUV that had caught fire, inside was a mom and her two young children. They all survived with fairly minor burns. The only reason they made it was because everyone who saw the fire rushed to help and break down all the windows and pull them out, before the firemen could even arrive.

My friend's younger sister was coming home by herself when a guy on the bus began hassling her. An elderly man on the other side of the bus stood up and demanded that the guy "leave his granddaughter alone". The guy stopped, and got off at the next stop. The elderly man was a stranger. GMH.

Today, I registered for an account on GMH. I've always had depression and anxiety. On every site I've ever been on, my username has been 'sapphirextears'. This time, it's 'sapphirexhope.' GMH.
